Artist's Comments
Here are some photos that I took of different stages of my painting. It was painted in acrylics.
Firstly I blocked in the background. I wanted this to be more indistinct and lighter tones so that the foreground leaves and dragon would stand out.
Next I painted the branch to establish the tone of the foreground.
I did an underpainting on the dragon, again to establish the overall look before adding the details.
I used a smaller brush to finish off the highlights.

The painting is nearly finished now. I'm just putting in a few final tweaks, sometimes it can be hard to stop, there's always something that needs improving but there comes a point when you just have to put the brush down!
