Enter the dragon's lair if you dare!

My aim for this picture was to paint a classic image of a powerful dragon. I thought that a red dragon would make an aggressive looking creature, and is a colour that will sit well alongside the golden treasure and dark cavern. Skeletal remains are scattered on the floor to show the fate that awaits any treasure hunters rash enough to take on this beast.

An article about how I painted this picture is published in issue 50 of Imagine FX [link] Out today in the UK and Europe and elsewhere in the world next month.

I've seen this somewhere before quite a while back...anyway, I loved it then and I still love it now. (The smoke from it's nostrils looks really convincing.)

If you know the story of the Hobbit, the prequel to the Lord of the Rings, this Dragon . . . well, I saw it and immediately thought of Smaug, the mighty Dragon in that story. Awesome!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this picture. It reminds me SO much of one of the characters in a novel that I'm trying to right. The colour, the setting! the anatomy is a bit different but it's like staring directly into my imagination!!!!!

I love the front view 'In your face' perspective on this piece. It's like he's just daring you to come closer so he can stomp on you or turn you into a crispy snack. Brilliant detail, I really admire your eye for the small things like the gold coins or the cracks in the cave walls. Very good!
